KFL - Minnis Bay - 23 Jan 2005

Unfortunately BVAC didn’t field a team again and so not surprisingly we are bottom of the combined league table and next to bottom in the ladies.

First prize for dedication goes to Pat Collins. He travelled down to Minnis Bay by train with his bike the night before and stayed in a B & B to make sure he was there for the start!

KFL Race Report - Rob Bright

The sun beat down on the Marshes but the white, frothy waves on the sea indicated an icy north wind. This wild, barren landscape, which we come back to each winter was living up to its expectations; except this time there was no ice, less standing water on the outward track and mostly dry ditches. But the tide was in, so the near 300-strong field lined up on the grass instead of the beach.

Veterans Debbie Percival and Liz Batty battled it out at the head of the ladies' field, but on the homeward leg they were passed by newcomers Heidi Meeham (Invicta) and Miranda McLennon (Sevenoaks).

The team competition was notable for the revelation that Dartford Roadrunners didn't win this time - well, they've won every race up to now. Invicta came through as winners in the combined team event, while Sevenoaks were victors in the ladies' team competition. However, this has failed to put much of a dent in the huge lead which Dartford holds in both competitions.

My thanks to Thanet Roadrunners for staging a race which, despite the relatively featureless terrain still attracts nearly 300 runners on an annual basis.
