BVAC Open Race - 13 Mar 2010

We held a 5-mile cross country race at Sparrows Den on Saturday 13 March. We had decided that any profits would go to Steve Brown, wheelchair sportsman, in his pursuit to join the British Olympic team in 2012 (Steve represented the charity WheelPower in accepting a fundraising cheque at our 20th Anniversary Dinner). The weather was fine if a little cold. The course was firm in the fields but wet and muddy in places in the woods. We included age group prizes this year and new criteria for the team prize, going to any three athletes from one club who were not otherwise prize winners.

Fancy trying your hand at Track & Field? For all those vets (35+) who don't belong to clubs that take part in the Southern Counties Veterans Athletics Clubs league, why not become a second claim member to Bromley Vets so that you can have a go - anything from 100m to 3,000m plus the usual jumps and throws. Give us a call.

The winners of all the prizes were:

  • First female: Ruth Hutton (South London Harriers)
  • Second female: Candy Hawkins (Ashford AC)
  • First male: Mike Cummings (Herne Hill Harriers)
  • Second male: David Ogden (South London Harriers)
  • First female Bromley Veteran: Connie Jackson
